Replacing silver fillings

Silver, or amalgam, fillings are made with mercury, silver, tin and copper. In some cases, other metals may be included in amalgam fillings, too. A great deal of research has examined these fillings and found them to be an effective, long-lasting treatment for dental decay.

We often have patients ask us about options for replacing their old silver fillings for a more discreet option. Whilst this is possible and will renew your smile to better blend and dental work with your natural teeth, its not essential unless there is a concern about the structure of the original tooth.

Old silver fillings can deteriorate over time, leaving your teeth vulnerable to decay or tooth cracks. Should this occur, your Sturminster Dental Care dentist will usually recommend replacing old silver fillings with a durable, more aesthetic composite filling, which we will match in colour to your natural teeth.

Restoring your teeth and regaining your smile

At Sturminster Dental Care in Sturminster Newton we use resin composite fillings to match the colour of your teeth and ensure a long-lasting and natural-looking result. We also offer porcelain crowns, inlays and onlays as successful options for repairing cracked, broken, decayed or heavily filled teeth. They are hardwearing and can be colour-matched perfectly to your own teeth.

If you would like to discuss replacing your old amalgam fillings or for any dental needs, give us a call on 01258 473397.

Generally I would have no complaints at all as all of the staff are always so kind aand welcoming, however with my treatment this week I personally would have preferred to be told what was being done when at each stage of the treatment; all I could see was lots of different things being put in my mouth but not knowing why etc. The dentist explained what he was going to do, ie root canal however I have to admit I was a little anxious and I feel that if I was told along every step this may have eased this a little. This is why i have used the 'neither satisfied nor dissatisfied' option on the section relating to satisfaction. Other than this, no issues

My wife and I visited Sturminster Dental Care today having been away from the area for some time and having had to use other dentists. The reception and treatment we received was outstanding. The reception team are kind, professional, and welcoming. Emmanuel ( our dentist) was truly exceptional, so skilled, gentle and supportive … simply second to none. Darren ( our hygienist) is equally brilliant and uses new and modern techniques which are much more effective and gentle on the gums and teeth. A really outstanding practice which we highly recommend. In addition their fees are very reasonable for the service they provide. Thank you.

I had never met the clinician before but he totally put me at ease. I was given the option of having the tooth extracted there and then or to wait for a later date.As I'm due to fly to Canada next week I opted to have treatment there and then. He was so gentle and explained each step of the process. Apart from the injection I did not feel anything - except relief when the tooth came out easily. I was given clear advice on what to do/not to do for the next 24 hours and to contact the surgery if I had any concerns. I am really grateful and pleased with the outcome ... no pun intended. :)
