Dental implants

Serving patients throughout Sturminster Newton

Dental implant treatment can change your life. Whether you’re replacing a single tooth, or a complete smile, dental implants offer secure teeth that feel just like your own, restoring both your smile and your quality of life.

Not only can implants recreate natural-looking teeth, but they also safeguard your overall dental health. Replacing missing teeth is extremely important, as missing teeth cause bone loss which will age your face and could potentially cause adjacent teeth to become loose too.

At Sturminster Dental Care we can assist with all implant cases, from the simplest to the most complex. Our patients have the peace of mind that they can access progressive technology and benefit from a wealth of experience from our implant dentist, our dentist.

What is a dental implant?

Putting it simply, a dental implant is an artificial root made from titanium which is used to take the place of the original root, securely bonding with the jawbone over time. Once the new root has fully healed, which usually takes between 3 to 6 months, this is used to attach replacement teeth in place using crowns, a bridge or a denture. These replacement teeth are carefully crafted to ensure they match your natural teeth, leaving you with a beautiful, natural looking smile.

Types of implant

  • Single implant – implants can be used to replace a single tooth, restoring your smile with a single implant and crown.
  • Multiple implants – if you have a gap from a few missing teeth, dental implants can be placed to securely fix a dental bridge in place.
  • Full smile restorations – If you are missing a full arch of teeth, or the full set, 4 to 8 implants can be placed to securely attach a denture. Anchoring dentures on dental implants ensure that they do not slip and are comfortable.

Why choose dental implants?

Crowns, bridges and dentures address the short-term cosmetic problem of missing teeth but do nothing to stop bone loss. Crown and bridge dentistry also requires grinding down healthy teeth leaving them at much greater risk for cavities and tooth failure. Dentures become uncomfortable and unstable over time as the jawbone shrinks causing eating and speech problems.

With dental implants, replacement teeth are securely anchored without compromising any neighbouring healthy teeth. Dental implants, like natural teeth, stimulate the jaw and stop bone loss.

Dental Implants Components

The benefits of implants

  • Implants look and feel just like natural teeth – you shouldn’t notice any difference.
  • Implants provide permanent stability and comfort without affecting healthy teeth.
  • Implants won’t come loose or fall out.
  • Implants can last for many years if you maintain good oral hygiene.
  • Implants prevent ageing bone loss, by stimulating your bone structure and stabilising the surrounding teeth.

Are you suitable for treatment?

Patients must have healthy gums and enough jawbone to support dental implants. At your initial consultation our dentist will use x-rays and scans to establish if pre-treatment is required and will explain this further.

Some patients may need to see a hygienist for a course of treatment to ensure their gums are strong and healthy before the dental implant process can begin. our dentist will also check that there is sufficient bone for an implant to be placed successfully at this initial consultation. If there is insufficient bone you may need to need pre-treatment before your dental implants can be placed. This may include oral surgery procedures such as bone grafting, bone expansion or sinus lifts.

Rapid Restoration Technique

From Problem Tooth to Fixed Implant in Just 6 Weeks

For many people, the thought of replacing a missing tooth with an implant feels daunting. Traditionally, implant treatment could take anywhere from 9 to 12 months, involving multiple visits and long healing periods. During this time, patients often have to cope with gaps, removable dentures, or temporary solutions that don’t fully meet their needs.

The Rapid Restoration Technique (RRT) changes this. By combining advanced planning, minimally invasive implant placement, state of the art equipment and early restoration protocols, our implant surgeon, Mr AJ Haasbroek, uses the RRT to replace problematic or missing teeth with fixed final implant crowns in just two visits over six weeks.

How Does the Rapid Restoration Technique Work?

  • Visit 1: The failing tooth (if still present) is gently removed, the implant is placed, and precise impressions are taken on the same day. A temporary solution can be fitted if needed for aesthetics.
  • Visit 2 (6 weeks later): Your custom-made implant crown is fitted, restoring function and appearance.

That’s it — from start to finish in just six weeks.

Benefits of RRT

  • Fewer appointments: Only two main treatment visits.
  • Faster results: A confident smile restored in weeks, not months.
  • Minimally invasive: Reduced surgery and quicker recovery.
  • Improved comfort: No need for long periods with dentures or gaps.
  • Predictable outcomes: Modern protocols ensure strong, long-lasting results.

How Does This Compare to Conventional Implant Treatment?

Conventional approach (9–12 months):

  1. Consultation and planning
  2. Extraction and healing (3–6 months)
  3. Implant placement and healing (3–6 months)
  4. Implant exposure (if buried)
  5. Impressions
  6. Crown fit

Rapid Restoration Technique (6 weeks):

  1. Tooth removal, implant placement, impressions and temporary crown (same visit)
  2. Crown fit at 6 weeks

Is RRT Right for You?

Not everyone is suitable for the Rapid Restoration Technique — success depends on bone quality, gum health, and overall medical suitability. A 3D scan and detailed consultation with Mr AJ Haasbroek help us determine the safest and most predictable treatment path for you.

In summary: RRT offers a cutting-edge alternative to the traditional long implant journey, giving you back your smile in weeks instead of months.

Helen the dental hygienist is a lovely lady and very very good at her job. She always introduces me to the nurse and does her best to make me feel comfortable and always advises me of what she is going to do. Helen really encouraged me to give up smoking. With her gently persuasive approach. She also advises me on how to clean my teeth better. Thank you Helen for your service. Keep doing what you do.

I am delighted to find an implantologist near to where I live as my existing implantologist (at Bath) is retiring. AJ at Sturminster Newton is excellent and I will be booking regular yearly check ups with him. He explained and discussed my existing problem and rectified this at the time of my initial appointment. After my next hygienist appointment at my existing clinic (which is already booked) I will also move this to the Sturminster Dental Care. I will then have AJ (the implantologist) and hygienist under one roof. The staff are excellent, most helpful and friendly. Overall a great experience.

First class all round as usual.

I am completing this survey based on my appointment with the hygienist, which is and always is with Helen, my regular hygienist - excellent.

A nearly 10% increase in price from 6 months' ago is a bit steep so we'll most likely stretch the time between appointments as long as our teeth are in good health. But Ian is a great, kind and considerate dentist who epitomises what being a good clinician is all about. Finding an NHS dentist in this area is also a reason for staying!
